COVID-19 SAFETY
It is safe to say that COVID-19 has changed the dental world forever. Our office has been and is following the most current standards and guidelines on infection prevention and control from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), the Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee (PIDAC) and the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Sterilization is the destruction of all microorganisms including spores. All sterilization processes are monitored using physical, biological and chemical parameters to ensure every cycle of sterilization has passed.
We are equipped with Air pura UV614 units with True HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filtration in each operatory and reception to ensure contaminants are removed from the air to improve indoor air quality. They come with 3 levels of filtration for microbes, airborne chemicals and particles, and a UV light.
Airflow chairside units, MedEVAC, also available in each operatory. They collect chairside aerosol particles. The MedEVAC will limit exposure to the operator, with collected particles contained within the filter bag and HEPA filter.
Isolite is an addition to our office equipment. Isolite is an intra-oral high volume suction mouthpiece that obturates the entrance to the throat, minimizing the chance of debris aspiration and helps remove the aerosoles. The patient can comfortably rest their jaw due to the built-in
bite block. The mouthpiece is single-use or sterilized after each patient.
Plexiglass is placed in the reception area. We follow social distancing protocols by allowing a limited number of people inside and assigning seats in the waiting room, 6 feet apart. We pre-screen and screen patients prior to entering the office. As well, screen staff at the beginning
and end of each day.
In addition to disinfecting wipes, we are using Vital Oxide/Concrobium Disinfectant II (disinfectants with EPA number that is approved by Health Canada) to disinfect surfaces and devices that cannot be heat sterilized or sanitized. We fog the operatories and the entire office twice, on a daily basis.
The health and safety of our patients, staff members, and visitors is our top priority. We follow strict guidelines recommended by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, and are adapting to the current challenging situation to continue providing optimal care in a safe manner to our patients. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.
